About CASA-NYC's Partnership with the Fund for the City of New York

CASA-NYC was established in 1979 as an independent not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization.  Effective October 1, 2015, CASA-NYC joined the Fund for the City of New York as a partner project.

The Fund for the City of New York (FCNY) is a not-for-profit established in 1968 to advance the functioning of government and non-profit organizations in New York City and beyond.  FCNY's Partner Project Program provides financial management services, including monthly expense and revenue reports and financial reports for funders and audits. It also provides insurance coverage and a comprehensive array of employee benefits. Partnership with FCNY gives CASA access to a chief financial officer, comptroller, auditor, financial manager, payroll clerk, accounts payable department, human resources experts, lawyer and nonprofit coaches. CASA-NYC pays an annual fee of 9% of expenses to FCNY, which is less costly than maintaining in-house employees to provide these functions, and allows us to benefit from "economy of scale" when purchasing insurance.

As an FCNY partner project, CASA-NYC  retains its independent Board of Directors for advisory and fundraising, but operates legally under FCNY's  501(c)3, while CASA’s 501(c)3 remains dormant.   This means that CASA-NYC continues to file a 990 postcard each year showing no revenue or expenses in order to maintain our independent 501(c)3 status in case we decide to separate from FCNY in the future.

Upon request CASA-NYC can provide the Audited Financials, 990 Form, and 501(c) 3 Determination Letter of the Fund for the City of New York, as well as CASA-NYC's 501(c)3 Determination Letter and annual operating budgets/actual expenses for CASA-NYC separate from other FCNY financials.
