Court Appointed Special Advocates of New York City (CASA-NYC) is a volunteer-based organization whose primary mission is to help NYC’s foster children thrive while in placement, and to facilitate transition out of care and into safe, permanent, and loving homes. CASA-NYC is one of the oldest and largest of nearly 1,000 CASA programs in the United States, and is a member in good standing of the National CASA Association.
Board Composition and Terms
Associate Board members make an initial contribution of $250 to CASA-NYC, and serve a one-year term. Members demonstrating high engagement and strong performance are invited to serve subsequent terms. The Associate Board meets approximately once a month at the start of the term, though sub-committees generally meet on a more frequent basis as outlined by the respective chair. The Associate Board’s meeting frequency reduces to bi-monthly after the first few months.
