New York City CASA works with many of our “partners” in the family court and child welfare community to improve the process for children and families. Along with the lawyers for foster care children, parents’ attorneys, foster care provider agencies, the Administration for Children’s Services and other city agencies, child advocates and various community groups, CASA is a member of various task forces and work groups that address the numerous issues impacting families before the Family Court.
There are shortages of substance abuse programs, housing and community-based services delaying the reunification of families. CASA, along with others, are constantly advocating for additional resources. Family Courts in all five boroughs are short-staffed; there is a critical need for more judges so that they can have sufficient time to hear cases.
