Court Appointed Special Advocates - For Children in Foster Care

Our Mission:

To see each foster child in a safe,
permanent home.

More than 17,000 children currently are in New York City's foster care system.

These children have been removed from their homes because they were abused or neglected, or their families felt unable to care for them properly.

The foster care program is intended to be a temporary solution, but too often it is not.

Many children linger in foster care for years, changing caretakers as frequently as a library book changes hands. Some live separated from their siblings.

The cases of these children are continually shuffled about in a bureaucratic child welfare system, clogged by administrative regulations, cumbersome procedures and high staff turnover.

Our courts and social support agencies are overwhelmed. A judge may have as few as 10 minutes to decide on the future of a child.

A simple mission

CASA's mission is to move children out of foster care and place them into safe, permanent homes where they can thrive.

It's a simple mission. In a complicated city.
